Two Weeks to Go!
And Eric Byrnes has a new personal best in AB's! Byrnes fans have been saying it for years: Play Eric regularly and you'll get good results. He's leading the team in AB's...and runs scored, and RBI, and total hits, and doubles, and total bases, and stolen bases. He's second only to the injured Orlando Hudson in batting average and triples, and second only to Chris Young in homers.
Chris Young has had a good rookie year; he needs only 4 stolen bases to be 30/30. But I can't help but notice that he's got more strike outs (129) than total hits (123) as of today. His batting average is a woeful .233 and his OBP is a pathetic .289 -- not what you want from a guy with the stolen base potential of Young. Likewise his K/BB ratio (3.39) needs work. I hope that I don't see Young strike out at a crucial moment in the playoffs. (And I stand by my insistence that the Snakes are going to be in there, despite losing the weekend series to the Dodgers while the Padres swept the Giants. Thanks for nothing, Giants!)
Come to think of it, I'm sure I won't see Young strike out in the playoffs; MLB has sold the rights to this year's division series and NLCS to TBS; I don't have cable and am not a bar goer. So the D'Backs will have to make the World Series in order for me to see them play this October. I'm not expecting that. But then lots of folks were not expecting the Diamondbacks to get this far.
How about Chris Snyder? The catcher asked for more offensive responsibility in the second half of the season and delivered when it was given to him, including last night's 3-run homer.
