Byrnes is 25/25!
This is the third time we try to post on the subject. The fact that a post gets destroyed when the remote server cannot put it up is frustrating.
Eric Byrnes achieved 25/25 today as he achieved 20/20 on Sept. 4th, by getting the homer and stolen base(s) he needed on the same day.
Byrnesie stole bases 24 and 25 in the 6th inning from Giants’ starter Jonathan Sanchez after reaching first on a fielder’s choice.
Congrats, Byrnesie. You have certainly proven that ’05 was an aberration.
K.R.
I smell 26/26.

They close against the Padres so he can certainly steal off Piazza. (And I would like to see 28 homers to exceed the 27 that someone else hit last year).
But what I really, really want to see over the next four games are three doubles, for a new personal best, and enough RBI to finish with the team lead.
Four True Elations to end the year might do the trick to achieve all the targets that remain within reach.
Lucky you got to see it. Worth downloading? Would have loved to see those runs. Last night was stuck at someones house watching the local Dodgers vs… Oh, Im having a senior moment here. What is the name of that team with the funny-looking black jerseys that threw Eric away? Oh yes, The Colorado Rockies.
Eric Byrnes, Diamondbacks 2006 MVP.
Tall,
I didn’t get to see it. I listened at home on the radio. But it will be one of the games I order on download when I can get the money.
Pat,
Ain’t gonna happen. The D’Backs MVP is going to be Brandon Webb. And I can’t say that’s an injustice to Eric in light of the fact that Brandon should get this year’s NL CY Young if there is any rationality in the world.
What I am hoping for Eric is some respect. But I don’t think that is in the cards in AZ. They are on an inexorable march to a 2008 outfield of Young in LF, Upton in CF, in Quentin in RF, and if Hairston has a very good spring 07 I wouldn’t be surprised if Byrnesie end up sharing time with him next year.
Even if Hairston is not in the picture, BoMel is going to go nuts with all the righties expected on the team next year: Byrnes, Young Quentin, Jackson. If DaVanon can rehab fully, BoMel is going to want his left-handed hitting and I don’t see his time coming out of Quentin’s or Young’s hide very often.
Maybe, if we are very lucky, Bonds will go to the Angels, Alou will retire, and then Sabean can get serious about bringing Byrnesie home.
No, actually, I read an article a couple of weeks back (can’t find the cite, now) and the choice was between Byrnes and Hudson. Pitchers get their own separate recognition, I suppose.
As for DaVanon, remember how often CoJack was pulled in favor of Clark when BoMel needed that lefty in the lineup. And one reason he pulled Byrnes was he had his two veterans, Gonzo and Green, with whom he was familiar, and he didn’t want to mess with. I see BoMel pulling Quentin for DaVanon much more often than Byrnes next year.
Of course, our guesses are just that. Who know’s what goes on in the minds of former catchers.
Oh, well, without Webb in the mix, then definitely Byrnes.
It would make sense that BoMel pulls Quentin instead of Byrnes if he wants another lefty in the lineup. DaVanon has played more right field than left anyway. But if BoMel has to pull a righty from the outfield, and none of the three are obviously slumping, it will remaind to be seen if BoMel is more interested in giving the new guy, who is part of their future, more experience.
Bottom line is that I don’t trust BoMel when it comes to Eric. Do you really think that Eric would have been able to achieve 25/25 if DaVanon hadn’t sustained a season ending injury in August?
